Ophthalmic Surgeries

Cataract surgery
We perform cataract surgery using the eight-chop technique, which is a unique evolution of the pre-chop technique, the most technically difficult method in cataract surgery. The eight-chop technique was developed by Tsuyoshi Sato in 2002 and presented at the 32nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Ophthalmic Surgery in 2009. Our cataract surgery is much safer, more efficient, and can be completed in a shorter time compared to other facilities. We are also actively performing surgeries for difficult cataracts that have been diagnosed as difficult to operate at other hospitals.

Vitrectomy

We actively perform vitrectomy for diabetic retinopathy, diabetic maculopathy, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, and retinal detachment. Especially for severe proliferative diabetic retinopathy, we carefully treat proliferative membranes to minimize the occurrence of retinal tear and improve surgical outcomes. We can also perform vitrectomy to deal with lens nucleus drop and zonular dialysis following intractable cataract surgery. Furthermore, in the unlikely event that endophthalmitis occurs after cataract surgery, it can be treated with prompt vitrectomy.

Glaucoma surgery
We actively perform cataract surgery on patients over the age of 60 to lower intraocular pressure. Recent studies have shown that cataract surgery can lower intraocular pressure and treat glaucoma. In accordance with glaucoma treatment protocols, we do not use more than two glaucoma medications, and we proactively perform glaucoma surgery (EX-PRESS implant) when worsening glaucoma is anticipated.
